Otherwise I would not have gotten to where I am today. You and others don't seem to realize or either refuse to recognize just how hard I work each and every week to provide the best show for EVERYONE! Thousands of emails-text messages-networking at venues all other the metroplex, mantaining 3 websites, meetups, myspaces and being apart of more than 25 different list servs all across the world. Its hard work. We do it because we love this. More than i love myself, my wife, my own life. WE LOVE POETRY AND THE ART OF SPOKEN WORD. It is my wife, my religion and I live for it as much as it keeps me alive. And We know that we give everything we have to it.
We are not ones to give in easily to suggestions without weighing them which includes discussing them with the people we respect and love like members of the fort worth poetry slams and fans like you. And we also respect and love those who understand all the energy and creativity that we invest enough to get there on time and leave their egoes at the door.
Its becoming increasingingly difficult for us to want to continue to juggle the mutiple egoes, attitudes and arrogances of those who have the unmitigated audacitiy to beleive that we are not astute enough to take in comments-observations and discuss, adjust and make changes that benefit the global arts community.
SPEAKING ON BEHALF OF MIKE GUINN
I say this to say that i respect EVERYBODY'S opinion and i unfortunately am cursed/blessed with this BIG ole heart which makes me want to give EVERYONE a voice.
Parents would not trust us to allow their 18 year old daughters into an venue like the Embargo and then bring them back home at 11:30pm on a school night, If they did not believe and trust that we genuinely love this art with all our heart and soul and that our spirits protects as much as it gives when providing a home for all voices, musicians, artist, comedians.
We are so blessed to have poets like Janean Livingston, Anthony Douglas, BEE, Princess, Big Ant and AJ Houston Just to name a few who come each week to share their heart.
Folks you can come as early as 6 oclock and see that we do everything ourselves. D.J. Big Ant gets there at early around 8ish and sets up by hisself. There is a reason why we do this week in and week out for little to no recognition let alone pay.
WE LOVE IT. Its the reason why organizations like APA-AKA-DST-ZPB-PHS-APO-ZTA-PKA-OMEGAS, Salvation Army, School Districts, Universities, in the US and abroad have allowed us to work with them. Because they beleive in our ability to bring to life their vision with words from my soul. They trust that we will be open to suggestions and mold accordingly.
All i'm trying to say is ....
FANS .... I hear you. I hear all the artists and fans. I have for years! And I am open to all critques, opinions, issues.
I love everyone despite themselves. And irregardless of the hearltless hidden agendas of some of the poets and the constant shredding of the spoken word fabric I have been quilting all my life. I'm gon keep on threading hope with my heart and continue to weave my tireless energy with prayers as WE create a open forum for all spirits.
Even if its in a sometimes loud, smoky, dank bar near the end of downtown.
Because I love this. I love You and I love The life the Lord has blessed me with. I AM...
