Michael Guinn is a native Texan who holds a Masters Degree in social work. What he witnessed as a caseworker for Child Protective Services "is what inspired him to write poetry. Since then he has become one of the nation's top advocates for social justice using the art of high-powered poetry and spoken word performances.
Michael Guinn is an internally reknown spokenword artist. He is the Founder and Slam Master for the historic Fort Worth Poetry Slam Team (which is featured every Tuesday at the Embargo located in Downtown Fort Worth). He has published over 13 books and recorded 4 volumes of poetry and spoken word. His workshops for creative writing and performance poetry have received national acclaim. Mr Guinn has done what no other performance artist has done, which is find a way to fuse the art of poetry and spokenword word in a way that makes it entertaining, educational and socially significant for various audiences. This is why he is one of the most sought after artist in the country.

ACCOLADES: Michael was a National Slam Finalist in 07 and was 13th at the 06 World Poetry Slam Championships. He has consistently ranked among the top national and international poets since he began sharing his soul in 2003. He is a member and co-founder of the award winning Texas Performance Poetry Troupe "Spoken Images" as well as the Founder and face of the Fort Worth National Poetry Slam Team. The team has ranked as high as third in the country. Members of FWPS have either placed or won awards at the New Word series in Berkeley, the Austin International Poetry Festival, and the Bluebonnet Poetry Festival and have performed all over the nation and in parts of Canada (Toronto Music Festival) They are some of the most sought after spoken word artist in the nation. Their dynamic delivery and energetic performances have put poetry venues on the spoken word map. They?ve worked as lead actors in plays such as the Martin Luther King Theatre Project in Sacramento,CA as well as appeared on television, magazines, radio and internet ezines globally. Mike hosts ?The Workshop" a high energy performance poetry workshop for emotional literacy and artistic development, They?ve authored more than ten poetry chapbooks and three Spoken Word CD's. They also published and edited "Freedom, a 911 poetry anthology" as well as numerous other poems all over the world. They are teachers, social workers, motivational speakers, mentors, and ? voices for all".

The Fort Worth Poetry Slams throughout the country has provided Quality Performance Workshops that typically run in 6 to 8-week modules. We provide a place for artistic and critical growth in after-school workshops which focus on different aspects of writing, from fiction, playwriting, and poetry, to performance and poetry slams. Facilitated by some of the country's leading performance poets, creative writers, national spoken word artists, and activists, Each workshop is designed for ages 10-100 years old.
